Where Will I Live in Sacramento?
Students have a number of options when making living arrangements for their term in Sacramento. While most Scholar Interns choose to live with their peers in the fully furnished Guest Suites Adagio Apartments, we recognize that some students may desire to live elsewhere. Below, we’ve listed several options and resources to help you with your search.
Guest Suites Adagio Apartments
- Scholar Interns are encouraged to live at the Guest Suites Adagio Apartments during their stay in Sacramento. UCCS has made a special arrangement with Guest Suites to offer apartments to Scholar Interns at reduced rates with a flexible payment plan and occupancy dates that match the UCCS academic calendar. Students are able to move right into their apartments without worrying about internet connectivity, cable and telephone services, utilities, and the myriad other tasks involved with setting up a new home.
- Guest Suites hosts most of our out-of-area Scholar Interns each term and they are very familiar with and responsive to the unique needs of students living temporarily in Sacramento. Located just ten minutes from the Center and in one of the safest neighborhoods in the greater Sacramento area, Guest Suites provides fully furnished two-bedroom, four-person apartments complete with daily apartment cleaning and dish washing service, free parking, and access to pools, a gymnasium and other recreation facilities. Previous Scholar Interns have praised the Guest Suites Adagio Apartments for its excellent facilities and the ability to form a close knit living-learning community with their peers. Living at the Guest Suites also allows Scholar Interns to focus on the intense academic and professional demands of being a UCCS Scholar Intern without worrying about securing a place to live and creating a temporary home in a new urban environment.
- For Financial Aid recipients, the cost of living at the Guest Suites will be factored into their award calculations. Students wishing to live at the Guest Suites Adagio Apartments just need to inform the UCCS staff of their desire approximately four weeks before the beginning of their term in Sacramento.
- The cost of living at the Guest Suites Adagio Apartments is approximately $2000 for a Quarter or the Summer and about $2900 for a Semester, which includes daily cleaning service, utilities, basic telephone, and parking space. Rent is typically due on the first day of Orientation Week each term. However, the Guest Suites staff has been very flexible when working with students who cannot pay the entire rent in one lump sum. The exact cost for rent as well as the due dates for rent can be found on the appropriate Admitted Students webpage.
Commuting from Davis
Most Scholar Interns from UC Davis choose to remain living in the Davis area and commute by car, bus, or train to their internships and classes in Sacramento each day. Scholar Interns choosing this living option should remember to budget for commuting and parking costs and that they are still required to attend all events in Sacramento.
Living with Family or Friends in the Greater Sacramento Area
Some students elect to live with relatives or friends already residing in the Sacramento area. For commuting time considerations, we recommend that students consider this option only if the potential residence is within 20 miles of the UC Center Sacramento. Scholar Interns choosing this living option should remember to budget for commuting and parking costs and that they are still required to attend all events in Sacramento.
Finding Housing on your Own
Scholar Interns may also choose to find and secure housing on their own. However we discourage this practice due to the additional time required and the financial burden of finding an apartment, negotiating a lease, arranging for utilities, and getting settled. When researching other options, remember to factor in the cost of utilities, security deposit including first and last month’s rent, commuting, parking, and purchasing necessary furniture and other essentials. Scholar Interns can also contact the UCCS staff if they have questions about specific areas or neighborhoods in Sacramento or Davis. For students wishing to pursue this option, we have provided a few recommendations and resources below:
