Scholar interns work a minimum of 24 hours per week in legislative, governmental and non-profit organizations in the capitol region. They are given academic credit for their internship experiences and are also enrolled in a public policy analysis course taught at the UC Center. This combination of units gives Scholar Interns full-time enrollment status at their home campuses during their time in Sacramento. Students are selected as Scholar Interns at each of the ten University of California home campuses thorough competitive application processes.

Once selected, each Scholar Intern works directly with the Internship Director to secure an internship placement that is appropriate given his or her skills, career interests and academic preparation.

The UC Center hosts a small number of students each term, so placements cannot be guaranteed for any particular site during a given term. The UC Center receives the student application information about two months before the start of each term, so expect to hear from interested students during that time period. The Internship Director works closely with each of the Scholar Interns to minimize the time it takes both students and internship sponsors to find a great match.

The more information you can provide about your office environment and possible tasks for the Scholar Interns the better. It helps them to envision the experience they might have in your office, and helps us to direct students to appropriate experiences that they might otherwise not have considered.
